Slate Auto, a new EV startup, supported by Jeff Bezos, has cooked a key Tesla production manager to build his electric pickup factory in Indiana.
Napoleon Reyes is an American marine from Indiana who got a degree in mechanical engineering from Purdue after leaving the strength.
Then he worked for a few years at Subaru and Wabash before joining Tesla’s production team at Fremont Factory in 2020.
There he became part of Model Y -Produktionsrampen and was quickly promoted to lead the Model Y General Assembly in Fremont in 2022.
Reyes led Model Y GA, one of the most critical parts of the vehicle’s manufacture, for more than a year before being promoted again to direct new pilot processes at the factory.
Most recently, he led the launch of the General Meeting to Model Y update.
The new engineering manager announced this week that he is leaving Tesla to participate in Slate:
A little late in the position, but after almost 5 years working in Tesla in Fremont, I made the difficult decision to leave the business and move closer to the home with my family. It was an incredible experience to be part of several line extensions and multiple model Y programs. Leading and Management of Model Y update launch to GA in Fremont this year tested me professionally, but we eventually succeeded because of our amazing cross -functional team collaboration. It has been an absolute pleasure to work with such great people, and I will forever be proud and grateful for everything we have achieved together.
I will take on a new role as senior manager, Plant Vehicle Engineering at Slate Auto in Warsaw, In.
Slate came out of Stealth mode earlier this year to reveal a new type of electric pickup with modular adaptation and an affordable price.
The company raised over $ 700 million through two investment rounds from several different investors, including Jeff Bezos. It is currently raising more, which basically guarantees that it will be able to reach production.
The startup acquired a former printing company in Warsaw, Indiana. It is currently converting to manufacture its electrical pickup with a team from older car manufacturers and also several former engineers and managers from Tesla.
Rich Schmidt, an early Tesla Manufacturing Director, is the leader of manufacture.
